Homemade Gummy Vitamins!

Yes! You CAN make your own vitamins! Cheap, easy & fun! PLUS, this recipe is picky-eater approved ūüėČ

My experimentation with this recipe started after my wallet decided it couldn’t afford JuicePlus Vitamins anymore…or any whole food vitamin for that matter…they are just so expensive! My little picky eaters LOVE gummy anything so I decided there had to be a way to pack all those good fruits and vegetables into a gummy form that wouldn’t break the bank.

Enter GELATIN.

Yes! Kosher Beef Gelatin! Did you know that you can turn any amazing beverage into gummy form with a little gelatin powder?? PLUS, gelatin is AMAZING for your body! It’s loaded with amino acids and is great for your hair, gut, skin, nails, joints, and more! You can learn more about the powers of gelatin by visiting http://www.thrive-style.com and typing in the search box “Gelatin’s Superpowers” and then watching Lisa’s video.

Anyways, back to vitamins.

Now that we know we can turn any liquid into a jelly substance using the amazing and healthy gelatin powder, we need to choose one. Choose a good quality, preferably organic, whole food powder. You can find these on Amazon. They are sold as powders you would add to juice or smoothies and drink daily to help get more fruits & vegetables in your body. Try to choose a red superfood powder loaded with berries and veggies. I don’t choose ones with any grasses because those can sometimes be hard on the digestive system…and these are going to be eaten by my kids too.

So now you have your 2 main ingredients: A red superfood powder (I’ve used both Terra Kai Organic Juce and 365 Superfood Reds so far), and gelatin (I use Great Lakes Kosher Beef Gelatin, also found on Amazon). ..If you can’t tell by now, Amazon.com has A LOT of my money.. And these may seem like expensive purchases up front but they will last a long time and make MANY batches of gummy vitamins.

The only things left are water to mix with the superfood powder (preferably distilled), a sweetener (I like maple syrup or Agave), and essential oils! The citrus essential oils add great flavor to the mix and even give your gummy vitamins a little immunity boost! So far my favorite for the Vitamins is Grapefruit EO. The best thing about Grapefruit essential oil is that its not sour, just flavorful and smells amazing! Young Living is the only company that makes a vitality line approved by the FDA for consumption. Please do not consume other brands of essential oils. You can purchase YL Grapefruit Essential Oil here.

Time to put our ingredients together so grab a small pot!

1 Cup water
2-3 Scoops red superfood powder
1/4 Cup Gelatin
1 T. Maple syrup
10 Drops Grapefruit Essential Oil

Put a small pot on stove and add 1 cup of water, 2-3 scoops of your superfood powder (depends how concentrated you want the Vitamins to be and how many you plan on eating everyday). Whisk it together and bring to a boil. Then gradually add 1/4 of gelatin. Be sure to add slowly and stir as you add to avoid clumps. Remove from heat and add 1 Tablespoon maple syrup (can add more or less to taste) and 10 drops of Grapefruit Essential Oil. Pour into a tray or cute silicone molds (For some reason, the kids think the teddy bear shaped molds taste better but I like the hearts). Put the filled molds in the fridge or freezer to set. In the freezer, they should be done relatively quickly…10-15 minutes. Once fully set, pop them out of the molds or cut them into shapes and throw them in a container. I like to store them in the fridge but its not necessary. These will keep for about 1 week. I let my little kids eat 5 or 6 everyday but they would be fine to consume more since the powder is made up of dried vegetables and fruits and not man made vitamins. My husband and I eat around 10 each day. Keep in mind it also depends on the size of your molds too.

Foaming Hand Soap Recipe!

If you are anything like I was, you probably walk by Bath & Body Works smell some amazing chemical fragrance, do a double take, and walk right into the store.  You probably walk around smelling candles and soaps until your arms are full of goodies and your head starts to hurt from all the synthetic fragrances.

Don’t worry, becoming chemical free doesn’t have to mean, no more fun smells! ¬†Thanks to essential oils you can create your own toxin-free soap with REAL smells from REAL plants, rather than something chemically engineered and labeled as “fragrance”. ¬†Did you know that the ingredient “fragrance” is actually a catch-all label for hundreds of different chemicals…so something that says “natural fragrance” or even just “fragrance” could have just about anything in it!… They might as well just write “possibly contains dog poop” on it ūüėú

Anyways, back to business. ¬†Time to make some REAL soap. ¬†The good news about all those trips to Bath & Body Works is that you can use all their nice foaming hand soap containers because they’re actually made with a good quality plastic (PETE)! ¬†Just dump out the chemical yuck¬†and buy a big bottle of unscented Castile soap (one 32oz bottle will make about 32 bottles of foaming hand soap!). ¬†I usually buy my Castile soap on Amazon.. But you can also find it in decent grocery stores.

Now for the RECIPE!:

-Foaming hand soap dispenser

-2 Tablespoons Castile Soap (approximately, I hate measuring so I just squirt some in there)

-20-30 drops of your favorite Essential Oils (Don’t go to the grocery store and buy cheap junk, get the real deal here because then you can multi-task by getting rid of the chemicals AND adding in immunity boosting oils! BAM now you’re really on fire!)

-Fill the rest of the way with water (leave space at the top so you don’t overflow when you put the top on like I always seem to do..)

-Optional: 1 teaspoon of Vitamin E oil or fractionated coconut oil (keeps your hands soft)

Done!

See! Kicking chemicals out of your home isn’t so hard after all! ūüėĀ #winning

So here’s mine! (Post pics of yours on my FB page @ultraoily for chances to win free stuff!) Since my new foaming soap is going in the kids bathroom, I added 10 drops of Thieves Essential Oil to boost their immune systems and 10 drops of Purification¬†Essential Oil for its amazing stink-eating smell!! (p.s. Both of those are in the Premium Starter Kit here)

DIY Toothpaste For Healthy Teeth!

Let’s talk about Toothpaste!

All you really need is some baking soda and coconut oil to clean your teeth so why do companies add all these extra chemicals?

SLS, Fluoride, Aspartame, etc have all been linked to health issues when consumed in high doses so why would I even want a low dose of that in my body?? ¬†Fluoride accumulates in the body over time and you might be thinking “well I never swallow it” BUT no matter how little you think you swallow, everything in your toothpaste is still being absorbed through your gums…
I have been making my own toothpaste with coconut oil, baking soda, bentonite clay, xylitol and either Peppermint, Orange or Spearmint Essential Oils and my teeth have never been cleaner. There’s no need to brush your teeth with garbage, make some super inexpensive toothpaste and mouthwash right in your own home! ¬†You can even customize it by adding trace minerals or magnesium spray for added benefits that you aren’t likely to find in something store bought!

I hate measuring so I tend to make my toothpaste different everytime…but here is roughly what I use:

1/4 Coconut Oil

2 Tbsp baking soda

1 Tbsp betonite clay

2 Tbsp xylitol (more if you like it sweeter)

30 Drops trace mineral drops (I bought mine on Amazon)

20 Drops peppermint, spearmint or orange essential oils (only use high quality ones, especially since you are partially ingesting these) Get your essential oils HERE. (Scroll down and click Enroll Now and become a member by getting a starter kit with 11 of the most used essential oils, including Peppermint!).

Mix it all together and scoop it into a silicone squeeze tube or a glass jar!  Use twice a day to brush as normal.

NOTE: You can add more or less essential oils to taste. ¬†I like to let my kids taste it to check that they like it before spooning it all into the squeeze tubes. ¬†If you’re kids are under the age of 5, I recommend using only a few drops of peppermint EO, or just skipping it altogether and using Orange EO instead. ¬†Some young children are sensitive to peppermint essential oils.

FOR FUN:  Try different flavors!  Young Living has a whole line of vitality essential oils that are FDA approved for internal use!  That means, you can eat them!  Try out Thieves Vitality EO for an extra immunity boost while brushing your teeth!!
