Toothpaste, brushing, flossing & mouthwash are really just INTERVENTION techniques, not PREVENTION.
What we really should be paying attention to is the food we are eating. Sweets can wreck havoc on your teeth, while leafy greens, apples, celery, almonds and carrots are great!
Since we aren’t likely to avoid ALL foods that can create plaque, let’s at least become informed of what to look for when toothpaste shopping. Check out this article to learn what ingredients to look for:
Here’s some super helpful tips I’ve discovered along the way for great oral health (I’ve never had a cavity 😁):
✨Clove vitality essential oil is strong tasting but works wonders- mix in with your toothpaste or buy toothpaste that already has it like Young Living’s Thieves Aromabright (here)
✨Orange vitality essential oil seems to brighten my teeth – add one drop to your toothpaste & toothbrush each night
✨Activated charcoal is a good natural teeth whitener – dip your damp toothbrush in and scrub the black powder everywhere. Then rinse and brush with toothpaste normally.
✨You can pretty easily make your own mouthwash – no harsh chemicals or dyes needed – use water and Dead Sea salt (regular salt is OK but dead sea salt has additional beneficial minerals) and whatever essential oils you think are yummy (only Young Living Vitality EOs though please, as other brands have not been approved for oral use and could be dangerous)
✨Swishing with organic apple cider vinegar (the kind with the mother) is great for oral health!
✨Oil pulling with coconut oil is great for your gums but time consuming and little yucky since it’s best swished in your mouth for 10-20 full minutes 😝..adding a few drops of orange vitality essential oil makes it a little more palitable
✨Avoid Sodium Lauryl Sulfates and Triclosan in your toothpastes at all costs
Sometimes I forget what it was like 3 years ago; that day when my Premium Starter Kit arrived in the mail and I opened it up. I just remember my excitement; this whole new world that I was about to become part of! I opened everything and smelled every bottle…feeling a little overwhelmed and slightly dizzy from sensory overload.
At the time, every bottle kind of smelled the same to me and I couldn’t believe people actually knew what to use and when. How did anyone remember that Thieves and Purification supported the immune system and that RC and Peppermint supported the respiratory system?? 😳
Fast forward 3 years and I can count over 100 open bottles of oils in my home, about 25 of which I use every single day and I’ve never felt better! Now let me tell you as simply as possibly what you need to know:
Essential oils are basically the life blood of the plant they are pressed or steamed distilled from. They have properties that work seamlessly with the cells in our bodies to bring us into our optimum homeostasis. All we need to do is get them into our bodies so they can do their jobs!
Everyday we should be using essential oils in all 3 ways:
✨Topically – on the skin, diluted with a little coconut, grapeseed or olive oil
✨Internally – consumed in water, tea, coffee, juice or in a vegetable capsule
✨Aromatically – breathed in right from the bottle or in a cool mist diffuser
*Always use only a couple drops at a time as essential oils are VERY concentrated forms of that plant.
To stay well, essential oils should be used in these 3 ways multiple times throughout the day. Some people like to premake roller bottles or spray bottles for quick application while others prefer to carry full bottles right in their purses to add to glass water bottles and car or office diffusers.
And don’t forget supplements! No one can consume all the nutrients we need in a day so swallowing essential oil infused vitamins like Inner Defense or Multi Greens or Super C, drinking NingXia Red (a superfood beverage loaded with antioxidants and essential oils that support overall health and longevity) and adding oils to capsules can be a game changer for our wellness.
I do all of the above. The more you use the oils, the more likely your emotions and health will stay balanced.
You don’t need to know exactly how to use them before you start. Just experiment. Get them in and on your body. See how you feel. Feel the changes.
Try these 10 SIMPLE IDEAS once you get those oils in your hands (and when I say oils, I am only speaking for Young Living’s pure oils as I have not seen proof of the purity of other companies’ oils):
♥️1. Put a roller top on your bottle of StressAway EO and roll it on your wrists when the day gets crazy.
♥️2. Put a 3 drops of Lemon or Peace & Calming EO in your diffuser, fill it with cool water and breathe it in
♥️3. Fill a 2oz glass spray bottle with a pinch of salt, 10 drops StressAway and 7 drops Peppermint and water. Shake and spray the bathroom for a spa like atmosphere.
♥️4. Add 2 drops of Purification EO or Citrus Fresh EO to a cotton ball and put it in your gym bag or trash or sweaty shoes
♥️5. Add 10 drops of Lavender to a small jar of epsom salt, shake it up and sprinkle a little in your kid’s bath a night time to help everyone wind down
♥️6. Grab a 10ml roller bottle off Amazon and fill it with 10 drops Valor, 10 drops Lavender and top off with a carrier oil like liquid coconut, grapeseed, jojoba, V6 or olive oil. Roll on the shoulder blades, jaw line, wrists or anywhere to promote relaxation
♥️7. Grab another 10ml roller bottle and fill it with 10 drops Digize EO and your carrier oil of choice. Roll in a large circle around your belly button at every meal. Do the same for your kids. Put one in every bathroom.
♥️8. Grab another 10ml roller bottle and fill it with 10 drops Thieves EO and your carrier oil of choice. Give one to each of your kids to apply anywhere on their bodies, especially the bottoms of their feet and spines, throughout the day.
♥️9. Drink 1-2 ounces of NingXia Red EVERYDAY – ✨seriously, if you do nothing else, at least do this one✨
♥️10. Take that packet of Thieves Household Cleaner, dump it in a big ole spray bottle and fill it with water. Clean every single thing in your house. Need scrubbing power? Sprinkle baking soda down and then spray with the Thieves Cleaner. Throw out all your other toxic cleaning chemicals. YOU NO LONGER NEED THEM.

I’m snowed in today so I’m going to share with you some research I’ve recently discovered about antioxidants and my new favorite beverage, NingXia Red (or as my kids call it, “magic juice”)!

1 can pure pumpkin (preferably organic but my wallet was feeling a little empty today)
1 drop YL Nutmeg EO
1 drop YL Cinnamon Bark EO
(Although not pictured, please use the Vitality line of Young Living’s essential oils when cooking or consuming the oils).

Don’t have Cinnamon Bark or Clove EO? Use Thieves! 8 drops of Thieves, 4 drops Orange (or Lemon or StressAway if you only have starter kit oils). Or whatever combo you love! Thieves is a great immune system support though so I always use it in my fall and winter hand soaps!
Wow that was an inexpensive one! I’m never buying hand soap again!
And you can use any foaming hand soap container for this. Glass, stainless steel, plastic. But if it’s plastic be sure it says PET, PETE or HDPE on the bottom so you know it’s higher quality plastic that can hold up to our diluted essential oil masterpiece.

We did a lot of spiced things so let’s cool it down with some lip balm. Feel free to leave out the cocoa powder if you prefer it to be clear (which I do) instead of brown. The cocoa butter is chocolatey enough.
Prefer the lip balm be more apple pie like? Use this combo instead of Peppermint EO:
P.s. I buy my lip balm containers on Amazon.com (just like most of my oily supplies). But NEVER buy your oils there. It’s not worth the risk. Only use oils you trust as they aren’t regulated and the word “pure” is a self-given title.

My experimentation with this recipe started after my wallet decided it couldn’t afford JuicePlus Vitamins anymore…or any whole food vitamin for that matter…they are just so expensive! My little picky eaters LOVE gummy anything so I decided there had to be a way to pack all those good fruits and vegetables into a gummy form that wouldn’t break the bank.
Yes! Kosher Beef Gelatin! Did you know that you can turn any amazing beverage into gummy form with a little gelatin powder?? PLUS, gelatin is AMAZING for your body! It’s loaded with amino acids and is great for your hair, gut, skin, nails, joints, and more! Anyways, back to vitamins.
Now that we know we can turn any liquid into a jelly substance using the amazing and healthy gelatin powder, we need to choose one. Choose a good quality, preferably organic, whole food powder. You can find these on Amazon. They are sold as powders you would add to juice or smoothies and drink daily to help get more fruits & vegetables in your body. Try to choose a red superfood powder loaded with berries and veggies. I don’t choose ones with any grasses because those can sometimes be hard on the digestive system…and these are going to be eaten by my kids too.
So now you have your 2 main ingredients: A red superfood powder (I’ve used both Terra Kai Organic Juce and 365 Superfood Reds so far), and gelatin (I use Great Lakes Kosher Beef Gelatin, also found on Amazon). ..If you can’t tell by now, Amazon.com has A LOT of my money.. And these may seem like expensive purchases up front but they will last a long time and make MANY batches of gummy vitamins.
The only things left are water to mix with the superfood powder (preferably distilled), a sweetener (I like maple syrup or Agave), and essential oils! The citrus essential oils add great flavor to the mix and even give your gummy vitamins a little immunity boost! So far my favorite for the Vitamins is Grapefruit EO. The best thing about Grapefruit essential oil is that its not sour, just flavorful and smells amazing! Young Living is the only company that makes a vitality line approved by the FDA for consumption. Please do not consume other brands of essential oils. You can purchase YL Grapefruit Essential Oil here.
Time to put our ingredients together so grab a small pot!
1 Cup water (or NingXia Red if you are looking to add in some antioxidants)
2-3 Scoops red superfood powder (optional if using NingXia Red)
1/4 Cup Gelatin
1 T. Maple syrup
10 Drops Grapefruit or Orange Vitality Essential Oil
Put a small pot on stove and add 1 cup of water, 2-3 scoops of your superfood powder (depends how concentrated you want the Vitamins to be and how many you plan on eating everyday). Whisk it together and bring to a boil. Then gradually add 1/4 of gelatin. Be sure to add slowly and stir as you add to avoid clumps. Remove from heat and add 1 Tablespoon maple syrup (can add more or less to taste) and 10 drops of Grapefruit Essential Oil. Pour into a tray or cute silicone molds (For some reason, the kids think the teddy bear shaped molds taste better but I like the hearts). Put the filled molds in the fridge or freezer to set. In the freezer, they should be done relatively quickly…10-15 minutes. Once fully set, pop them out of the molds or cut them into shapes and throw them in a container. I like to store them in the fridge but its not necessary. These will keep for about 1 week. I let my little kids eat 5 or 6 everyday but they would be fine to consume more since the powder is made up of dried vegetables and fruits and not man made vitamins. My husband and I eat around 10 each day. Keep in mind it also depends on the size of your molds too.
